MIGRATION PROJECTS

Live Room & Human Rights: Empowering Disadvantaged Youth Through Art & International Collaboration

In line with its commitment to human rights and social inclusionLive Room has actively collaborated with various organizations to support disadvantaged children and youth. Whether through our LABO’s sociocultural activities or partnerships with international projects, we strive to create opportunities for engagement, awareness, and artistic expression.

Artistic Productions: Addressing Migration Through Creativity

Years of working with youth in northern Morocco have revealed that immigration is often seen as the ultimate dream for a better life. To address this issue, we have integrated migration themes into our artistic productions, community events, and performances, including:

  • Only 14 – A contemporary dance performance co-produced with GenerationZ, Institut Français Maroc, and Dubai Culture. It was awarded Best Young Performance at the Detour Festival in Belgium.
  • Évasion – A contemporary theater production co-produced with Institut Français Maroc (2023), exploring migration and identity.
  • 14 Kilo – A short film co-produced with Seefar and AIDA (2024), shedding light on migration struggles.

Expanding Live Room’s Presence in Europe: A Focus on Migration

To broaden the impact of our work on migration issues, our team undertook strategic visits to Spain in 2023, engaging with local partners to expand Live Room’s presence in Europe. As a direct result:

  • Live Room delegation was created in Barcelona to act as a bridge between Africa and Europe on migration-related initiatives.
  • Our Barcelona team has already taken part in two actions under the EU project RACIF (in collaboration with AIDA ONG & La Xixa Teatre), leading interactive workshops with immigrants.

University of Ottawa Collaboration – Immigration Conference (May 2024)

In May 2024, Live Room hosted a delegation of Master’s students and PhD researchers from the University of Ottawa for a conference on migration at LABO.
During this event:

  • Live Room’s founders shared firsthand experiences of working with youth in northern Morocco, where migration is often viewed as the only escape from social and economic hardship.
  • Researchers and students engaged in discussions on the challenges of migration and explored potential solutions.

Through these efforts, Live Room continues to advocate for human rights by using art, research, and international partnerships as powerful tools for social change.
