Sortie de Résidence Acrobacy to Contemporary dance.

As part of the professionalization of street artists and in particular those who present significant development potential such as acrobats, Live Room organized a two-month residency at the LABO center, directed by the dancer and choreographer Karima El Aidouni, with the objective of introducing a group of acrobats from the city of Tangier to contemporary dance to open up new professional horizons for them and also in order to select exceptional talents for the Live room troupe.

After launching an open call for participation for the artist residency, six people were selected. Their profile varied between a former of Chamsy circus school, a former of the Darna circus training program, three formers of the Tangier acrobats school and an autodidact dancer. The residency took 14 sessions of accelerated work spread over two months during which Karima worked with the participants on the following aspects:
1. Technique Development: Emphasizing the development of participants’ technical proficiency in contemporary dance. Providing structured and progressive exercises that focus on alignment, strength, flexibility, coordination, and fluidity of movement. Incorporating floor work, release techniques, and dynamic movement qualities that are characteristic of contemporary dance.
2. Movement Exploration and Improvisation: Encouraging participants to explore their own unique movement style through guided improvisation exercises. Fostering a sense of freedom and creativity, allowing participants to express themselves authentically and developing their own movement vocabulary.
3. Choreographic Exploration: Facilitating opportunities for participants to engage in choreographic exploration. Guiding them in creating movement phrases, experimenting with different compositional elements, and exploring their creativity in shaping their own choreographic ideas.

Finally, a small residency reconstitution show was organized on January 5, 2024 in LABO Studios in front of a close audience, and where the dancers presented a group choreography in which contemporary dance and acrobatics were mixed to give an eclectic interesting artistic show. At the end of this residency, two participants communicated their choice to continue in the Field of contemporary dance.

We are delighted to formally announce the commencement of the forthcoming week, coinciding with students’ vacation, wherein we plan to engage with children to explore, innovate, and create. The primary objective is to seamlessly attract children’s attention to the importance of science and to integrate art and technology to yield diverse results and foster an enjoyable learning experience. The scheduled activities encompass a curated program featuring sound exploration, cartoon voice-overs, puppets and of course robotics. Our beneficiaries are the kids of Ibn Batouta Scout Legend and Padre Lerchundi social center in addition of our LABO members.

Additionally, we will organize outdoor excursions, including visits to the forest, to galleries and museums, to enhance the overall experience during this week.

To culminate the week-long event the participants of our Creative Skills Programs will present the works that hey have realized during the first semester in front of thyir colleagues. This will showcase a captivating performance by both young and adult participants from each group. The program will further include two Theater shows, two projections by the Audiovisual Lab, a puppet show by the Drawing & Handcraft Lab, a Graffiti VR Challenge presented by the Graffiti Lab, and a rhythm show by the Rhythm Lab.

BlaBla+ Episode 7: Bullying.. Funny or Not?

The Blabla+ series was back in its 7th episode on December, 15th to try to answer to the question: Bullying.. Funny or Not?!

BlaBla+ is an interactive show where we study social topics and treat it from several angles : sarcastically and seriously through different opinions (speakers, polls, sidewalks, web buzz, etc). So after the six past episodes we found that many people suffer from bullying while many others think that it’s normal. Also, it figured out that bullying can cause many psychologic and social problems.

It was also an opportunity to discover and discuss with our special guest “Prencissa Tanja” who hah been anounced lately on the top of the national buzz because of the cyber bullyers.

As usual, the Blabla+ team never relents to press the issue in the funniest way possible through interviews, social media videos, polls etc. In other words, this seventh episode brought with it merriment, joy, fun, and a cool interactive talk among an audience that widely varies in age groups. In fact, both adults and youths have had a cheerful experience discussing some of the most critical thoughts in the social environment nowadays. We have also anounced to the audience that this will be the last episode of the BlaBla+ series as we know it and it that it might transform into a different type of podcast with wider audience.

Live Room Show 8th Anniversary: Special Christmas!

The annual Live Room Christmas returned on Saturday evening, December 23rd. It was just Live Room Project’s 8th anniversary. As a matter of fact, it was an evening that reflected love, fun, acceptance, tolerance, and a family growth over the years that outnumbered expectations.

Also, Live Room Project has never made a show into a political statement but, in real, recent world events and the tragedy that’s been taking place in Palestine did impact the theme of the evening. It was an opportunity for LABO team, and its experimental theatre group to share a message of compassion and solidarity through a beautiful piece of theatre which was exhibited first, and was closed with an outstanding choir hymn performed by participants, coaches, kids, and team members. In other words, it caught emotion.

However, the show soon morphed into fun and celebration. More explicitly, the team members had been challenged in a singing competition which was all but talent. Indeed, it was funny in anyway one can imagine. At last, it became a party of a “little kid” who’s just turned eight; it was Live Room Project birthday. After all, and like always, people could share an experience to remember, an evening to tell stories about, and a sense of belonging to a big family.

SOF Music Residency with 577Records

In July 2023, we met the managers of 577 Records and discussed the possibilities of mutual collaboration for a Music Residency for experimental jazz in Tangier, involving five professional young musicians from all over the world and four other teachers like James Brandon Lewis, Francisco Mela, Federico Ughi, Pat Thomas, and Matthew Putman. Our role was to integrate the residents into the cultural environment of Tangier, facilitate logistics, and connect them with local musicians.

577 Records is an independent record label based in Brooklyn, New York. Operating since 2001.

A workshop led by Pat Thomas was organized in LABO on the evening of Saturday 04 November, followed by a concert of the residency’s musicians and then we opened a Jam session with over 20 local musicians who came to share their music and the vibes of peace and friendliness with the public who assisted.
