Art in times of Corona

Today we have just finished the first week of total containment and more than two weeks of distrust and confusion. The Coronavirus dictates its law on the whole world and that law is very simple: Beware! Stay at home! Protect yourself!

The majority of us acted according to this law – which now seems fundamental to our survival – without being able to worry about the future of our social, cultural, and artistic life.

In our sector, culture and entertainment, we were among the first who read the future that awaits us because of this health crisis: the first official decree coming out in Morocco during the second week of March 2020 was prohibiting sporting events in the first place until further notice. Our activity was directly linked to the exploitation of sharing artistic talents which arose after the public gathered around our events. Also, the timing of the crisis was going to astound our plans because it comes at the start of our activities in the second half of the season which coincides the renewal of our administration committee and preparations of the 4th edition of the Urban Art Week festival. Things got aggravated very quickly. The first decision we had to make within the association is to stop working on the progress of activities for two weeks so that each member can get used to his/her new system during pandemic without stressing about work.  We had to see through the situation before deciding on an action plan.

Indeed, in our annual calendar of activities appeared in the box on Saturday, April 28 the 3rd episode of BlaBla + under the theme “Harassment, what solutions? “. Today, Friday 27th, D-1 of the event, we would have been at full speed to prepare everything for D-Day but we are forced to cancel – or rather postpone – the event. Several questions confuse our vision and prompt us at this time to wonder more and more about the strategy to adopt for this new world which is gradually taking shape on the horizon of this crisis, a very distant and digital world than ever, a world where we may no longer recognize the former interests of human beings.

Live Room Project wants to inform you that its pilot team will continue the work on the structuring of the association and the preparation during this lockdown as far as possible for the project to be launched in the LABO center. Regarding digital actions, we noticed that our technical tools as well as the Moroccan digital platforms cannot provide us with the necessary support to move to the organization and dissemination of live events on the web. At the moment, we will be in charge of raising awareness and disseminating the responsible artistic content that we receive under the current pandemic.  #fuckcorona

To be continued.

2019’s Meeting of Live Room Association

Annual meeting

The Live Room association held its first general meeting in 2019 on Saturday, December 14 in Tangier, in the presence of 7 of the board of directors’ members and 20 other active members of the project.
The agenda for this meeting covers:
– Presentation of the association’s achievements during the 2018-19 season
– Presentation of administrative needs for the structuring of the association
– Set of objectives for next season.
– General strategy adopted by the association.
– Call of commitment to the new Live Room’s Project: LABO

Also, we informed the participants that the period of validity for the current administrative council has ended and that the application is open for the coming season. Omar Mokadem, currently president, and Nabil Bedda, treasurer, state that they will change positions and become office advisers. A second meeting will be held in the coming days to validate the new board of directors’ offices.

4 years of Live Room Project

Finally, we took this opportunity to blow out the candles for the fourth anniversary of the Live Room Project by wishing to see more female members in the association.

Live Room Halloween Show

The program “Show” of the Live Room Project continues to create events in Tangier and this time with Halloween. A special show / party will be held on Friday, November 1 at Darna Theater (in front of the fish market).

Costumes, disguises, horror makeup, and live shows will be waiting for you. But why did we specifically choose the Halloween event to celebrate it? Well, because it’s fun, it’s the only party that celebrates –comically- horror. The children love to celebrate it as well. In addition, collective Live Room wants to express its opinion on this festival that is strange to us but also that becomes very commercial in recent years.

History:

This is not the first time when Live Room Show has Halloween as its theme. Back in 2016, the project organized a Show at the American Legation of Tangier under the theme of “Halloween meets Boujloud” where we tried to make a comparative approach between what is it in the Moroccan culture (Boujloud festival in the region of Sous) with the feast of American origin Halloween. It was one of the most successful events. We were very touched by the joy received from the children and youth who participated. This year, we will set up a new event with a micro show on consumption and advertising presented by the theater team. Then, we will present a welcoming show by the project’s founder Omar Mok’s. We will host for the second time the rock band Tetouan Obsession and will see a dance show from the collective Dance of the North or Ramis who will offer us a premier rock thriller show. Live Room Halloween Show is a disguise party that will take place on November 1st at 7:00 pm and last until 9:30 pm.

About the program:

We would like to remind lectors (what do you mean? Do you mean followers?)  that the Live Room Show is a quarterly festive and educational program launched by Live Room Project in 2016, which aims at revolutionizing the notion of cultural events by creating a show that pleases and teaches the audience. It has a moral theme that directly affects the social situation of the users and a unique program that promotes cultural diversity. The theater team provides an opening to the program presents the theme and integrates the audience. Then, it presents a welcoming show. Later, we pass to the programmed performances while leaving room for an open mic / jam session.

URBAN ART WEEK 3° WAS ALL ABOUT HAVING GOOD TIMES

URBAN ART WEEK 3° WAS ALL ABOUT HAVING GOOD TIMES

“Thank you so much Live Room for this event”, “It was the best day of my life!”, “Keep the vibes UP!”, “We can’t thank you enough for this colorfull wall transformation”, “We’ve participated in many others street art fest but this one guys is definetly the coolest one!”… Those were some of the feedbacks we’ve recieved after the event ends and that make us very proud and more motivated than ever. From the start of Live Room Project, we have put the entertainment  of our audience at the head of our priorities but also worked hard to involve them in our events and make them express themselfs freely. In this third edition of the Urban Art Fest Tangier, we had more than a thousand visitors, mostly aged between 13 and 25 years and more than a hundred artists for all categories. Such a plaisure to know that you had guys passed a good time with us.

The Fest opening was DOPE

The Urban Art Week turns around the collective Art exhibition and the murals. The opening day was organised at Old British Embassy of Tangier with a full day animation program  containing every urban art style and where we tried to create an utopic piece of the city inside the closed venue so people and artists can feel free to express their creativity without any form of censure. Boys and girls together, family bringing their children to discover street art, people from different places doing networking: Do what do you love now! This was the spirit of the Urban Art Fest 3.

In the program we had: Collective art exhibition (29 artists: Comics, Digital Art, Pop Art, Photography, Drawing, Videos), Xgames and freestyle parade, Dance and choreography,   Music concert, Rap Parade, Two theatre shows, Graffiti workshops, Painting workshop…

19 STREET ARTISTS FOR MURALS

After the open call for participation, we recieved 19 Graffiti and Street artists whom 2 from Spain, 7 from Tangier and the rest from others Moroccan cities. The artists stayed in a residency for 5 days where they met on day one, attended the opening day event and felt the spirit of Live Room Project then started to work on their sketch books to have the best result for the collective wall painting. After 4 days, they have completly transformed Ibn Toumart street. Tangier’s to be very proud of them, and so we are.

PERSPECTIVES

This year’s edition was harder than ever, because we faced schedule & budget difficulties. Next year goal is to have a development team available from november 2019 which mission will be administrative and sponsoring process following.

For the other hand, we will keep working on the structuration of urban groups specialy in Tangier such Graffiti, Street art, BMX, Skateboarding, Freestyling, Parkour, Dance, Rap and underground m:usic. The idea is to encourage artists and amateurs to regroup themselves in collectifs so we can serve them better.

Also, we will keep opening the project to the North region of Morocco, the other cities and to our mediteranean neighbours for more artists exchange. The final goal for next year is to make it 5% better than this year, and especially to make this festival the engine of street art creation in the city of Tangier.

Finally we would love to thank everyone who made this happen. The participants, the team, the partners: Thank you so much and see you next year!

What’s the Fest About ?

For those who weren’t with us last year, The Urban Art Day is a big meeting where people from different races and ages share & enjoy Art. We can read from our visitors feedbacks: “My friend told me a lot about the first edition and I felt like I missed something big, And obviously it is something big.. Something different! I enjoyed like never before in an event. Thank you Live Room Project” wrote Zakaria, a musician from Tangier. Or also what we get from Andii, student, USA: “I discovered The Live Room Project’s Urban Art Festival by sheer luck. I was walking home from Souk D’ Barra one sunny afternoon, and I was drawn to the sound of music and youthful chatter coming from the Villa of old British embassy (Tangier’s House of Culture). Being a Florida-born Moroccan, I struggled to find a creative community when I returned to visit Tangier. I was fortunate, for the first time in my life, to be immersed in the joyful exuberance among my fellow artists, my fellow Moroccans. There was an abundance of activities to take part in at what I discovered to be the Urban Art Festival. There were thrilling dancers, talented musicians, dare-devil skateboarders, thought provoking visual artists, poets, rappers, and much more. I remember being offered the microphone to sing alongside a few very talented guitarists, some jazzy scat. I had never sang with my whole body like that before, I had never felt energy so vibrant rushing through me. I am so grateful for The Live Room project for reminding me of the beauty that we can create in Morocco. I am currently studying Theatre at Florida State University, and I’m excited to bring what I’ve learned to Morocco in the coming years. The Live Room Project and the Urban Art Festival have inspired me to bring my life and my art closer to home.”

Live Room Project is participating in the cultural week of “Ecole National des Sciences Appliquées of Tetouan” which will coincide with the world’s art day.

In the program, we have a visit to a rural elementary school at village Ain Zar9a, to entertain them with music and art, make some workshops and finally surprise them with presents.

And, on Wednesday 17th afternoon at ENSA Tetouan, Our founder and CEO Omar Mok’s will lead a conference-debate on the theme “Art as a driver of personal development” which where he will translate the Live Room Experience to the students and guests.

This project is considered as a beginning of partnership with the artistic institutions of Tetouan and especially with the students of the university, and who can later develop to integrate a project initiated by The American Legation of Tangier, regrouping students of Tetouan in a Live Room Show.

This is a brief description of the event. You can find more details on FB: https://www.facebook.com/events/404194060367301/

BLABLA+ « 7oriat l’mra : cheno rab7in ga3 ?»

Blabla+

Since the launch of the Live Room Project three years ago, we have given a major importance to sharing experiences and knowledge. This was done through artistic meetings where we treated the issues related to the importance of artistic expression for human development. In this second phase of the project (from 3rd to 5th year), we want to spread the field of discussion to contain the various social problems that we have faced or were communicated to us by our collaborators. As the BLABLA+ series has an interactive character and positive goal, we will process in order to organize an episode at the end of each quarter of 2019 that will deal with a specific theme.

Concept

Just like in a television set where the presenter welcomes one or more guests to discuss a specific theme or a general topic and interacts with the public through their opinions and questions, a BLABLA+ meeting takes up the same concept in a live version. The aim is to present a social problem and to deal with it from several angles, through the different opinions of the speakers.

Episode 1: Woman’s freedom: What’s the gain from?

The freedom of women in Tangier and generally in Morocco is still a suspect theme to men and women themselves. It is always a disturbing term, often misinterpreted and almost always condemned in our society. This doesn’t go without an invoice. In this BLABLA+ which coincides with World Women’s Day week, we will try to answer the question: What is gained from women’s freedom?

  • Language: Moroccan dialect
  • Date: Saturday 23rd March, 2019 at 5:30pm
  • Duration: 60 mins
  • Space:  Cinema RIF
  • Participants: 50
  • Audience type: All Ages and categories
  • Entry: Free (On registration)
  • Partners: La Cinémathèque de Tanger, FUZIA.COM

Tangier Play Park close its doors to X-Riders!!

Extreme sports or Adventure sports are recreational activities perceived as involving a high degree of risk. These activities often involve speed, height, a high level of physical exertion, and highly specialized gear. The types commonly known in Morocco are: BMX, Rollers, Skateboard, Parcour, Surf… According to some Moroccan gamers, Extreme sports also known as X-sports are therapies however, not all gamers are lucky enough to have a secured, safe and equipped space to practice their talent in as the case of Tangier gamers who must pay 20dhs per day (!!!) to have access to Tangier Play Park which is supposed to be public, and rent a helmet for 10dhs, knowing that most of these gamers live far from the park that is located in Malabata. And we are wondering how a Xgames park can survive without its best gamers? What’s the emotion behind going there if we can’t find experimented gamers to teach and entertain us?

That’s turn out to be DANGEROUS!

Furthermore, numerous gamers have been aggressively attacked in Tangier streets while training (watch the video below). Thus, we strongly believe that the main cause of this problem is the fact that x-sports are not considered beautiful and creative ARTS like others while x-gamers are artists as well just like singers, painters or dancers… without ignoring the fact that they are the image of the country so, they must be the heartbeat of the parks. All in all, it is mandatory and very important that Tangier Play Park joins Casablanca and Rabat and make it public.

https://www.facebook.com/ghostbiker7/videos/1998795290187142

Live Room Project is supporting Tangier X-Riders case and we call the authorities to find a solution for them. We will keep fighting till we get the park back and we suggest as a solution to make an exclusive list of the gamers that should enter freely or just pay a small amount, for example: 100dh/month.
