In July 2023, we met the managers of 577 Records and discussed the possibilities of mutual collaboration for a Music Residency for experimental jazz in Tangier, involving five professional young musicians from all over the world and four other teachers like James Brandon Lewis, Francisco Mela, Federico Ughi, Pat Thomas, and Matthew Putman. Our role was to integrate the residents into the cultural environment of Tangier, facilitate logistics, and connect them with local musicians.
577 Records is an independent record label based in Brooklyn, New York. Operating since 2001.
Improvisation masterclass
A workshop led by Pat Thomas was organized in LABO on the evening of Saturday 04 November, followed by a concert of the residency’s musicians and then we opened a Jam session with over 20 local musicians who came to share their music and the vibes of peace and friendliness with the public who assisted.

As part of the development of the Live Room Project, our association signed a partnership agreement this year with the University of Burgos via its creative maker space La Estación de Ciencía y Tecnología. This agreement will allow the two parties to exchange their knowledge and experience in the management and implementation of creative programs for young people and children and in particular for the Technology and coding workshops applied in Robotics, 3D printing, and Augmented Reality, but also art programs and creative events for young people.
According to this partnership, Live Room seeks to launch two new Art and Technology programs for children in Tangier. It also aims to equip its executive staff with the necessary knowledge to do so.
Augmented Reality workshop
The team of La Estación de Ciencía y Tecnología visited Tangier from May 21 to 25 to give two workshops in Chemistry and microscopic composition for children from the Lerchundi Center and another Augmented Reality initiation workshop for young people of the Live Room. FYI, La Estación is a project based in Burgos that has transformed the city’s old train station into a huge maker space that aims to promote vocations related to science, technology, engineering, art, and math for people of all ages.
Visit to AST
Also, seeking to forge new local relationships and explore other similar projects in the Tangier region, the teams from the Live Room, the Lerchundi Center, and the guests from Burgos went to the American School of Tangier to visit their newly built Maker space and discuss the possibility of a future partnership for knowledge transfer and support for the new LABO Art and Technology programs. To be continued…

Volunteering at a Traditional Ramadan Celebration: An Experience to Cherish
Ramadan is a holy month of fasting and spiritual reflection for Muslims around the world. During this month, communities come together to break their fast and celebrate their faith. As a volunteer for the Live Room organization, which organized a traditional Ramadan celebration, I had the privilege of witnessing the power of bringing together different generations for a night of fun and entertainment.
The goal of the event was to raise funds to purchase clothing for children in need for Eid Al-Fitr, which marks the end of Ramadan. Even more, it was an opportunity for people of all ages to come together and celebrate their cultural heritage, with volunteers and participants dressed alike in traditional attire. I was in charge of welcoming the guests and putting bracelets on for the young girls.
Omar and LABO kids
One of the highlights of the event was the live music and dance performances that showcased the richness of our cultural heritage. Both young and old folks were up on their feet, dancing and enjoying the festive atmosphere. It was truly heartwarming to see everyone coming together, forgetting their differences, and simply enjoying each other’s company. The event also featured a raffle and silent auction to help raise funds for the children’s clothing purchases.
Kids in the Aamariya
It was inspiring to see how everyone was investing in making the event a success, and how the community came together to support a noble cause. As the night drew to a close, I felt a sense of pride and gratitude for being part of such a wonderful community. The event not only brought joy and entertainment to everyone involved but also helped support children in need. It was an experience I will always cherish.
“Maghrebiya” exclusive song
In conclusion, volunteering at a traditional Ramadan celebration was an eye-opening and rewarding experience. It was incredible to see the power of bringing different generations together for a night of celebration and to support a noble cause. I am grateful for the opportunity to have been part of such a wonderful event and look forward to volunteering for similar events in the future.
